Ottawa's Hidden Food Gems From a Self Proclaimed Foodie

I live to eat... not just eat to live. If you believe in this philosophy then we can be friends... :)

So, not to say that there aren't already many food critic review sites out there for the Ottawa region because there are in fact plenty. I believe that there aren't enough of them and frankly, one more wouldn't hurt.  This low key blog is also dedicated to the smaller restaurant joints and the ones that almost made it to the top 10 list, key word, "almost," but were somehow robbed of their glory this year.

Yes, I do take pictures of my food. Not just because I want to remember each amazing dish, but simply because I knew that one day I would create a foodie blog.

This day has come...

Disclaimer: There is no restaurant bashing here, friends, simply a sharing of the joy that has been graced upon me by tasting, seeing, or exactly this, being a witness to great food! To good times and more...

Also, I will try to regularly update this blog, more so than the yearly issues of reviews done by the other big reviewers.

1. Atelier

Molecular Gastronomy at its finest (blurred lines between science, food & art)

This place is probably the most fun and longest dining experience I've ever had in Ottawa. Be prepared to sit about three hours for this amazing 12 course meal. I best describe it as the science  experiment that meets fine dining. Be ready though, because the experience also mirrors the price.

Wine pairings are available (highly suggested). They are also able to cater to any dietary restrictions.

This was Reese Withaspoon (play on words); pb dessert
I believe this was a kind of sashimi in a fish bone structure
I don't remember what kind this was,
but it was refreshing and delicious
The presentation is excellent, as always
This food art makes you not want to destroy it...
up until your stomach starts talking again
This is also the day I discovered something that I enjoy
way more than ice wine: Moscato D'asti
(Try this if you haven't already!)
So if you haven't already made plans for your next big occasion to go here. Go, do it now.

2. Allium
A dim lit restaurant that creates a gentle intimate atmosphere. The servers always seem to be of a calm yet professional composure.
Hmm... I actually just really like their wood art in the back of the room.

I've been to this restaurant a few times with a few different friends. More recently I visited it for a nice late birthday celebration. Basically, if you want good quality food with more affordable prices, I suggest this place.

I never used to like butter and bread...
until I discovered that bread & butter could be mixed with a multitude of flavours (i.e maple butter, garlic butter, siracha bread, etc). Chefs today finally got creative!

This Root Beer cocktail was pretty decent. Remember, if you're unsatisfied with anything, as a client, you reserve the right to request changes in your food. I used to feel bad when I'd ask a server to return the dish or drink to the kitchen/bar. Much later, I realized the concept that since you're paying big bucks $$$$ for your food, that you might as well enjoy it.

Tuna dish with a hint of orange. Can't go wrong with fresh sashimi :)

The scallops were pretty tasty. This was my friend's dish. If you eat with me then be prepared to share your food. I would never eat 75% of your dish, but...
Sharing is caring :)

One of the reasons why I like eating out with friends is because I enjoy their company. And with my new found love for food, I would like to share anything tasty with friends

Basically, all I'm saying is you shouldn't be rude. Can I have a bite?
(Why should I even have to explain why sharing food is good and beneficial?)

This is my main dish. It's duck breast with some kale chips and other great veggies.

So, if you're wondering what new restaurant you should try but don't want to break the bank, well Allium is the place to go and make reservations. The dishes' presentations are pretty & savoury.
